Humanities: No Red Ink, Projects, Of Mice & Men & Socratic Seminar
Today in class we started by splitting in two groups. Those groups got underway with another round of No Red Ink and it's/its. We'll be taking a quiz on this next Friday, November 15. You may want to practice on your own.
From there, Mr. Ryder discussed the Story Corps project and what that will involve. Mr. Dunbar talked about the photo essay project and what that will involve. We also talked about the building a studio project. (This will probably be a major design challenge anchor project.)
We came together and Mr. Ryder read nearly all of the next section of Of Mice and Men, beginning on page 66 and ending . . . after that.
Folks had twenty minutes to work on:

Blogging
Story Corps/Photo Essay PreThinking/Planning (Good stuff to put on blog)
Word Map #4 (Due yesterday)
We ended with a GoSoapbox experience. We took a couple of polls and completed our socratic seminar. To access it again, just enter the access code in your gmail inbox.

Humanities: Improvising Of Mice & Men & Socratic Seminar
We spent today in the Forum, because we did some improv acting, a little dramatic reading and then some deep questioning.
We started with a quick refresher of the book by means of a quick game of symphony. We thought of words that described Lennie & George as well as words that stood out to us in the text.
Then Mr. Ryder read aloud up through the next chapter break around page 36 or so. We countered the rest of the bunk house for the first time, as well as the boss' son, Curley, and Curley's wife. We are about a third of the way through the novel.
To check for understanding of the scenes, we recreated tableaus, frozen images, from the story so far. Groups had to guess which moments from the book the other groups were recreating.
We ended with a socratic seminar that started verbally and then moved to a digital back channel on Today's Meet. You can access the back channel here.
