AP Lit 3G: Poetry as Design Day Two: What We Did w/ Commercial Arts

On Wednesday, we combined forces with Commercial Arts Gold once again to tackle our design challenge.  It took a stronger shape today.

And then we started that work . . .

DISCOVERY stage of DEEP design thinking.

Four stations.
Poetry.  What do we know? What do we want to know?
Design. What do we know? What do we want to know?
Lyrics/Song/Art. Importance Inventory. What seems important in this?
Problem discovery. What problems might we solve at MBC? Western ME? Beyond?

We'll start class with LNG View & No Red Ink today.

The LNG View reading and form have been sent to your Gmail.  It's also here if you need it.



You have a second assignment in www.noredink.com around common mistakes with their/there/they're & to/two/too.  Assignment one was tremendous.  Most folks did really well.  So, we will have a quiz on Friday around their/there/they're & to/two/too.

Remember, if you don't do well on the NoRedInk quizzes, you can always retake them.  You just have to first demonstrate evidence of learning.  This you might do by doing some practice work on NoRedInk and sending us screenshots of your results.  You might do it by watching grammar related videos and blogging about what you learned from them.  You might write a song that show's you understand.  Lots of things you can do.  And then retake the quiz.  We replace the new grade with the old. (Unless you do worse, then the old grade stands.)

From there, you will have time to craft your reflections on your projects and complete your self-assessments.

AP Lit 2B/3B: DT Challenge & Poetry

We'll open with this DT challenge:

Use one manila folder, two paper clips, tape, scissors, markers, and no more than five words to make a product that increases happiness, thoughtfulness, or connectedness in MBC. 25 min.

This kicks off our work of looking at poetry as a design challenge.

Here are some thoughts I've been having about that

• How might we create poetry?
• How might we create visual interpretations of poetry?

Those are fine . . . I'd like to see us go here though . . . 

• How might we increase happiness, connectedness and thoughtfulness through poetry?
• How might we express ourselves through poetry?
• How might we share ourselves through poetry?
• How might we solve our problems through poetry?

All of these working toward an answer to this . . . 

• How is poetry a human-centered design challenge?

Then we wrangled with a sonnet.  Period 2: "Altruism"; Period 3: Milton's "Light"
